Articles of Association

The GBIHA provides opportunities and support members to further grow, develop and excel in the sport of ice hockey. We are pleased that so many of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay ice hockey programs have joined the GBIHA as founding members.

Integral to the GBIHA will be transparency and fairness. The GBIHA will allow members, including new members, to vote, and elections for the executive committee will be open and fair. It is through fair and open elections that the GBIHA can ensure that the right people with appropriate knowledge, expertise and capabilities can guide the sport through its growth and success.

Membership Classification

Individual Membership –

Holder of a Hong Kong Identity Card
Holder of a China Resident Card
Holder of a Macau Identity Card
18 years old at the time of application
Pays the membership fee within the time when requested
Has the right to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting
Eligible for election to the Executive Committee (EC)
Active player, coach, game official or any type of involvement in hockey deemed acceptable by the EC

Junior Membership –

Holder of a Hong Kong Identity Card
Holder of a China Resident Card
Holder of a Macau Identity Card
Under 18 years old at the time of application
Pays the membership fee within the time when requested
Has the right to attend but cannot vote at the Annual General Meeting
Is not eligible for election to the Executive Committee (EC)
Active player, coach, game official or any type of involvement in hockey deemed

Club Membership –

Any organization that is involved with hockey deemed acceptable by the EC
Holder of a valid business license or a valid certificate of registration of a society
Pays the membership fee within the time when requested
one person to represent the Club.
Has the right to attend and represent 1 (one) vote at the Annual General Meeting

League Membership –

Any league that is involved with hockey deemed acceptable by the EC
Must have organized a minimum of 1 full season
Pays the membership fee within the time when requested
Has the right to attend and represent 1 (one) vote at the Annual General Meeting

Notes –

Memberships are not transferable.
The EC will review and amend the regulations and requirements from time to time.
All members are required to follow the rules and by-laws of the Association.
Members of the GBIHA are allowed to join other Associations.
Any members who want to terminate their membership before their term may do so in writing. No refunds on the membership paid shall be given.

Expulsion -

The rights and privileges of a member shall terminate under the following conditions –

Written resignation by the member to the EC.
Commits a crime or felony under the laws of Hong Kong, China or Macau.
Harassment of other members deemed inappropriate by the EC.
Violation of any rules and by-laws of the Association.

Note - Committee Members are voted with a 4-year term.

Founding Members –

One level above the EC.
Consist of Supports from the Clubs and Leagues.

Nomination Process –

The inaugural EC shall be determined by the Founding Members.
The selected members will then determine who will be in each role.
An EC candidate will be required to be nominated by 12 members.

General Meetings –

Annual General Meeting (AGM) – will be held once a year to update all members of the activities of the current and upcoming season.
Committee Members are voted with a 4-year term.
General meetings will be held quarterly at a specific time determined by the EC. Meetings will be held virtually.
Members are required to attend at least 3 out of the 4 meetings during the season. Failure may result in the removal of the EC as the discretion.
The General Secretary shall -

inform all EC members at least 1 month in advance of the meeting details
gather the input of EC members and prepare an agenda to be distributed at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.
record all notes
provide a summary of the meeting no later than 3 days after the meeting
lead the meeting based on the agenda

The function of the meetings is to discuss the business of the Association.

Interpretation –

The Articles of Association will be updated from time to time by the EC.
All decisions by the EC will be final.

Discrepancies –

If there are any discrepancies between the Chinese or English versions, the English version shall prevail.
